Wrote...What a difference the last 2 days have made. With warmer weather and stable water levels the fishing has really improved with catches of over 100 fish reported by boats today. The clear water near the Lodge have allowed our guests today to never move more than 1/4 mile from the boat ramp. Small shallow running Crankbaits worked best for the Kanbuhl group. The best color being Tennessee Shad for the Crankbaits. Watermelon candy Lizzards from Mad Man Lures work very well in Canyon number one with fish up to 6 1/2 pounds reported. Topwater Pop'r's worked during the Mid Afternoon in the shade. Clients used stickbaits with much success. We are very happy to report that the fishing was very, very good today. Hope to see you at Lake Huites Lodge Rene Salazar

Wrote...The recent snow in the mountains has made fishing very different with lots of cold water running into the Lake. The lake conditions have change much since the beginning of the month. The lake is very stained between the damn and Taco Paco but clear water up the Chinipas and in the two canyons. Also some fish have been caught in front of Lake Huites Lodge. We have found topwater action works well in the middle of the afternoon also small crankbaits working excellent. I look for the water temperature to warm some over the next few days which should help the catch rates for the Lake. Currently very slow but should improve. Rene

Wrote...I had the pleasure of using the Thanksgiving holiday to fish with the best lodge on Lake Huites in the company of my 16 yr. old son and Scott and Cathy Webster of Phoenix, AZ who filed a fishing report with this site. It was my third trip to Lake Huites and undoubtedly my best as far as numbers of fish. I felt the heartfelt feelings a father has when watching his son have so much success at bass fishing on the best lake in Mexico. Poor me though, my son is now addicted to Mexican fishing and now I have to pay for two from now on! We caught nearly 300 fish combined. Our largest was 7 lbs 2 oz. Both my son and I lost at least one certifiable hog each. We saw both of these fish and felt these fish were 10lbs or better (NO EXAGGERATION!) We caught our largest fish during the evening bite on Pop R's. I had a good bite our third day of fishing on spinnerbaits. Every fish I caught was good quality with average weight of over 3-4 lbs. By far our numbers were caught on 3/4 ounce rattletraps and medium size Bill Dance fat free shad. The water level dropped nearly 7 feet in the three days we fished. This water level is about equal to the water levels we experienced while fishing in February 2003 but the dropping water had little affect on the fishing! As is always the case the crew of Lake Huites lodge showed us a wonderful time and ole Ollie and Russ know how to tell good stories and share laughs with the customers. Rene, thank you for your company and letting me share in the adventures that you sometimes share with your customers. Senor Russo, remember that boats are meant to be backed up with the use of a vehicle. Those remote control back up procedures have a tendency to fail once in a while!!!!!! Se you all early next year!

Wrote...Just returned from LHL. Great way to spend Thanksgiving ! Fished 11/27-28-29. Lake level is pretty low and being pulled down fast (approx. 7 feet over three days). As always the staff and crew at LHL did a fantastic job. Without doubt the best lodge on the lake. The fish are concentrated in age class groups in relatively shallow water. Most fish were caught on ½ oz fat free shad in pearl white or Tennessee shad along with chrome / blue back ¾ oz rattle traps. There was a top water bite immed. prior to sunset. I personally landed over 100 fish per day with Friday 11/28 producing the most numbers and the largest “landed” fish of the trip (7 LBS 4 OZ). This fish came on a chartreuse buzz bait within 15 feet of the boat. On Thursday 11/27 I produced 8 fish on 10 casts to the same bush in the remains of the aquarium that ranged from 5 to 6.5 LBS. On Saturday 11/29 my wife and I produced 37 fish in 45 casts from the same tree averaging 4 LBS with the largest being 6.5 LBS All in all a fantastic trip. Looking forward to our next. Maybe they’ll get that stretch from Mesquite to LHL graded……………………

Wrote...We had an outstanding trip! Lots of bass in the 1-5lb range and a few larger. But... did land one over 8lbs. Am fairly sure I had one in the 12-15 lb class on (Carolina Rigged 10" Pumpkinseed Power Worm) that broke my 17lb. leader. Disappointed about that. Senko's worked extremely well in the canyons. Some in our group had never fished for bass. They are now converted due to the action and number of fish we caught. Congratulations! Accommodations were excellent, food was great and the service was top notch. This was the third trip our group fished together and consensus was that it was the best trip we have had. Great to learn that you can charter into El Fuerte - will be interested in doing that when we go back. Louie

Wrote...Incredible .... Huge Numbers .... Too many fish fish to count. Tom and I (from Kansas City) estimate that we caught somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 fish for the trip. The smaller fish 1-3 lbs. were really on a bite. Chrome Rattle Traps were hot for the smaller fish. There's giant schools of suspending fish all over the lake. Find a school that's feeding, hold on, and catch as many as you feel like catching. The evening Fluke bite was like feeding time at the hatchery with fish up to 5 lbs., right on the bank in the rocks and logs. Sometimes we threw spinner baits instead of the Flukes and the numbers went down but the quality went up. The big fish of our trip was a little over 7 lbs. (Big Fat Free Shad) caught on a main lake point the last day. We couldn't find the big fish bite this trip. The best we could tell is that the lake is dropping 2 feet/day. Thanks to the staff at LHL ... it was top notch as usual. You've got to get down to LHL and experience the adventure first hand. Numero Uno!!!!! Really looking forward (already) to next year. Set the hook!!!!!

Wrote...Great fishing out of Lake Huites Lodge.(Thanks Manuel)Numbers of fish caught too many to keep track of. Swim baits, rattle traps, crankbaits and lizards produced on flats at main lake. Flukes, Pop-r's and lizards produced up in the canyon area. Topwater in canyon fun at dawn and dusk, but not many good fish caught on them. Flukes produced larger fish. Swim baits and 8" lizards generated better fish on the main lake. Food and lodging are still 1st rate. Last 15 miles of road in still a backbreaker.

Wrote...Have you ever caught so many BASS that you just sit down in the boat and say NO MAS! This is what I did after catching somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 fish in about 1 hour, and about 20 fish on 20 casts. My hands, back, ribs, wrists all hurt from setting the hook and reeling in fish. I would say that the numbers of fish caught would be close to 500 fish in 3 days. With several large fish 8lbs. and a couple of 7lbers, as well as several over 5lbs. I have been to Huites several times and this is the best I have seen the fishing. We caught so many fish that it was UNREAL even for Huites. As usual as good as the fishing is the staff is even better. Rene does a wonderful job, and NO is not a word that will be heard during your stay. Ollie and Russ will keep you laughing with their stories and the lovely ladies in the kitchen will keep your belly full, and your margarita glasses full. I cannot wait to return so that I can complain about how much I hurt from catching so many fish. Thanks to Keith for being a great fishing buddy, and a special thanks to Florenicio (sp) our guide for making this the most enjoyable trip ever. Wrote...Had a great time, and caught 100+ fish per day. The numbers could have actually been better, but spent half of each day looking for big fish, but just never found them. The fish we were catching averaged 2+ pounds, with several up to 7 pounds. Primary baits were spinnerbaits and topwaters in the morning, chartruese/white and white with willow blades in either color. Pop R type baits were better in the morning, with buzzbaits being the ticket in the afternoon. The crazy thing about the buzzbait was the faster you retreived it, the better the fish liked it. The last afternoon, I fished with Luis, and the fish went absolutely nuts! From 3:30 until 5:30 Bill and me caught over 200, with Luis picking off another 30 or so out of the back of the boat. The bass would actually fight over your bait. It was one of the wildest bites I have ever seen in my life. We only had one 6 pounder out of the whole bunch, but it was a great time. From ten to three, we threw mostly black/blue, red shad, or other dark colored worms. Very little success on swim baits. The lower end of the lake towards the dam, which is where the majority of big fish have come from this year, was extremely off colored. The lake has received a large amount of runoff, which is good for the lake but bad for the fishing. Shortly thereafter they drew the lake down some, pulling the off-colored water down to the dam. Strangely enough however, the upper ends of the lake are extremely clear, with the canyons being the most perfect water. We had very little success up the rivers and down the lake by the dam, and caught almost all of the fish in the canyons. The area in front of the other lodges appeared to be clearing up pretty quickly, looking much better when I left than when I came. The last couple of miles to the lake where really rough, as apparently the motor grader the state uses for that road has been broke down. Word was it was fixed while I was there, so it may be improved pretty quickly. Nonetheless, as long as that rough road keeps all of the Mexican and American bass boats out, it will continue to be an unspoiled paradise.

Wrote... Hey everyone we just got back from Huites and the fishing was great! My partner and I went out hunting for the big ones and man did we find them. We were Texas rigging 6" June Bug "Mad Man" Lizards on main lake points in about 25 feet of water. Our boat had the four largest bass in camp that week, all around the 9 pound range. The top water was outstanding up in the canyons using Pop R's. The fish were schooling on small shad and the water would be churning for 10 city blocks, WOW what a treat. Water temp is still in the 80's but the fish didn't mind. If you are planning on heading that way bring some sun screen and a camera because the scenery is outstanding and the days are warm. Wrote...The water is up some from last year but getting drawn down again. The netters were just starting as we left on Sat. afternoon. It was 104 degrees when we arrived on Wed. but cooled off to 88 with clouds on Sat. Water temp of 83 at hottest. The baitfish were thick in most places up in the Chininpas River and the bass didn't have much interest in our offerings. We moved to the narrows at the first 1 mile of this river and did extemely well with fish to 6 pounds. Both the big crankbaits as well as small shallow runners worked well in several different colors. Senko's and worms/lizards also worked good. While we were initially told points in 25 feet of water was the best, we found most all of our fish in 7 - 12 feet of water in the aforementiioned narrows and also the steep walls close to the damn. (1/2 mile on each side) These fish were really agressive and would come back several times if they didn't hook up at first. This was the best fishing for numbers I've ever experienced in this area in 6 years. While the overall numbers weren't as good as some previous trips, my neighbor and I were still able to catch over 150 fish p/day out of my own boat. The road in was the roughest I've seen in 6 years as my bent axle will attest, but Terry's crew at LHL was accomodating as always. The fresh smoothies at the lodge were a nice treat aftr a hot day on the water. Old Oly-meister did catch a 9 1/2 pounder while we were there and the large baitfish population should be a boon for large fish for the upcoming season.

Wrote...What a difference a few months makes! If you read Rene's report posted below, you can see that with the rising water and the lake being at levels it hasn't seen in 18 months, all of the fish, including the big ones, have moved shallow. Last season, we caught several 10+ lb. fish, but it seemed like they were all in 35 to 40 feet of water. Now Rene reports and our most recent group reports 100+ fish days with very healthy fish and fish up to 11 lbs. caught. This has always been a typical fall pattern, but this year, we're very glad to see it, considering some of the tough fishing we experienced at times last season. Something of note is we have now joined forces with Lowrance, equipping each one of our boats with some of the very finest electronics available. Also this year, in addition to our fine fleet of 18-foot boats, we now have available Skeeter 19 1/2 foot boats with 150hp Yamahas. Rene continues to work hard to assure that Lake Huites Lodge is the premier bass fishing operation in Mexico. Hope to see at the Lodge soon. Terry Hollan

The recent group all did very well with fish up to 11 pounds caught around all the points near the damn. The fish are agressive with several fish following baits to the surface. Work the crankbaits very slow, also use stop and go when retriving. Slow rolling big spinnerbaits on the bottom will also work. Jigging the swimbaits in 30ft of water produced a 11.2 and a 10.0 caught within 5 minutes of each other. The most active big fish are near Techobampo. Good Luck

Wrote...Very good trip. Second year for our group from Birimingham to go down. 20 guys this year. Staff, lodge and food still first class. Water was very low this year as compared to prior year due to no major hurrucane. Estimated water was down 30 to 40' from a year ago. Bite was slower but still excellent when comparing to normal bass fishing. Last years big fish was right at 11.5 this year I had a 8.55 second biggest of group and the largest was 8.67. Personally caught aroud 5 from 6 to 7 lb class and numerous from 3 to 5 lb class. Hottest bait for me personally was Senkos or imitation Senko's Watermellon Seed the hottest, also helps to take chartreuse galic dye and dip tails in this. White and balck Senkos also worked well. You might check out the BassPro shops Tournament Series Senko imitation, you get 20 in a pack for 3.99 vs 8 to 10 Senkos for 5.50 plus the Bass Pro's hold up much longer they are a lot tougher. The top water was better late than early. Also note with Senkos was using a small lead weight Texas rigged whi=en in 10 to 20' of water, early when no wind up in canyons fishing weightless but regular hooked not wacky and the 1 to 3 pounders ate them up. Once you fing the fish off shallow points in 10 to 20 feet of water tie off and fish hard. Most of our 3 to 8.5 fish where caught in the same hole. We this hole after luch the first day and it produced the next 2 days as well. Most fish were thin must be due to post spawn because food was everywhere. I feel the 8.55 I had could have easily been in the 9 to 10 pound class with more girth. Measurement was 24.75 x 16.75 . Was a great trip and look forward to another return in the future, God willing. Hope all of you still on the way have a great trip and land the really big ones that eluded us, no doubt they are there lurking the lake.

Staff was top notch, fishing was good just hogs without eggs. We caught at least 3 fish that would have scared double digits if full of roe and pre-pawn feed up but they were all healthy. Excellent scenery - Most all fish caught using Lizards and Flukes. The big Crankbaits also worked excellent Thanks for the tip on Manuel and Jesus, I think the smiles may be gone by now but they seemed pleased and my son David solidily kicked my ass (with Manuel's help). There was a man and his wife that did well but other than them, I think we had the biggest bag each day. Solid fishing, good hospitality. We'll be back.

Only problem was our guide did not speak any english( no problem as I am fluent in Spanish) and hardly any spanish (maybe he was shy?). The Lodge was great, the entire staff was wonderful, and I am looking forward to my next trip. Seem like most all of the fish in the Coves and most had already spawned

Wrote...This was the second trip for our group of 8. Everyday and every boat was a different experience. Everyone caught numbers but some would have a run of 12 or more over 5#. These were caught on BDff shad on a rapid retrieve. This worked everytime we would land a big fish. Best numbers came on Mad Man white flukes fished early and late.Fished in the am without a weight like a top-water. Fished in the afternoon and evening with a 1/16oz wt close to the bank. the rest of the day was worms and crankbaits. The area around the church was good for all sizes of fish morning and evening. Other groups on our trip had excellent results with senkos (silver shad).Again our thanks to Terry, Rene,Russ the guides and the girls for the great food and hospitality. For anyone going who can make the time the 6 day stay is definitely the trip for decompressing and fun.. After all why not stay a few more days at the Best Lodge on the Lake..See you next year.. adios for now.

Wrote... After fishing out of a different lodge a couple of months back I can definately say I will never go anywhere but lake huites lodge. The staff was second to none. The lodge, food, guides, were all top notch. The fishing was just a bonus. I fished with my brother for 3 days. He has never bass fished before and I am definately not a pro. We caught over 200 bass in the 3 days. That is fish IN the boat. We had probably 15-20 fish between 5-7 lbs. The rest were 1-4lbs. Also took my uncle and a freind, they killed them. One afternoon they caught 35 over 5lbs. We talked to some guys on the way home at the airport that fished a different lodge the same days we were there. They didn't do nearly as well as we did. If you want an unforgetable trip, definately go to to lake huites lodge. The staff takes care of you like nothing you have ever seen. John

Wrote...Ok, to start with Terry,Renee, girls of the kitchen and especially Ferennzio thanks for another great trip the food rooms and even the ride to the lodge was incrediable but expected nothing less for a top notch outfit like you run. Now for the fish as Russ said have hook will catch in 6 days Savid and I caught over 500 fish each day was different Ferrenzio took us too places in 3 trips there I have not fished and everywhere there were tons of fish if you wanted #s wh flukes in the trees and Med Deep lil Ns got all you could stand but the honey hole of the trip was a crankin DD22s for 4-6 #ers slammin it in 1 afternoon over 20 in 1 1/2 hrs. We fished anywhere from the dam to the canyons and caught fish on everything we threw traps, wewrms, crks , flukes blade, and the whole tackle box just too se if there was a lure that didn't werk NOT , but the hottest place we went had to be up near the church because that's where we had a 35 in hr top water bite if you didn't have a slam every cast w/ the Splash-it some thing was wrong and if they missed it they came back3-4 times for it till they got it. Now fishin a werm at the dam in 237 ft of water was cool too hit the dam play line out like 12 ft and when it stopped SET the hook or run acrk along it and get slammed. Again thanks for a GREAT trip planning next yrs already, did learn that 6 days was just the right amount of time, don't think the old arms could take any more hook sets LOL.

Wrote...Second time down in less than a year and CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK! The conditions were pretty tough. It was raining on and off our first morning, however the fishing was super for my partner, Rick, and myself. We fished with the best guide in Mexico, Rene's brother Manuel. He put us on a hotbed of fish and actually by lunch we had 107 fish in the boat. The size was small, between 1-4 lbs but it was FUN! It toughened up in the afternoon with more rain and the bite was off, netting us 35 more fish. We lost the evening bite due to worsening weather that included lightning and hail so off to camp it was. The 2nd day offered cool temperatures and a bluebird sky and the bite was definitely tough. The lake had a rise and the water was stained in some areas. We boated approximately 40 fish. We did have a couple of 5 pounders. The last day brought us back to life and the bite was back. We netted a load of about 80 fish (stopped counting at 60). We did experience some evening topwater action but it was slow in the mornings. Color definitely mattered. Cranks in pearl white, flukes and senkos in white or baby bass, and worms in watermelon did the trick for us. I feel had the weather been more cooperative we could have boated easily 100 fish per day and our size would have been better. Our group had lots of fish in the 5-7 lb. range with a few in the 8-9lb. range As always the staff at Huites was top notch, the food was great, and Russo, mountain driver from Kmart as white headed as ever(due to his driving)just kidding Russ, and to our guide Manuel, we luv ya man! Thanks for putting on the show! You know you have the best lodge on the lake when your patrons have fished the other lodges and kick themselves for not picking Lake Huites lodge for their previous trips. SEE YA'LL SOON!

The fish seem to be hitting all over...points, flats and banks. Lots of numbers on the banks but the better anglers are finding the big ones down in deep water (10-11" worms Texas rigged). There is NO way to not have a totally memorable day on what I think is the best damn bass lake in the world. Be careful...once you come you´ll be addicted and back for more lip rippin! Ive been down now in June, Jan and now Feb and have caught numbers and size each time...Next for me...October! Hope to see you down there. Feel free to contact me at my email if you have any questions on my experience.

Wrote...Great fishing to report! The area has received quite a bit of rain over the last week and the lake has risen almost 15 feet, and lucky for us, it has not affected the fishing one bit. The hottest bite is coming off of white and pearl flukes made by MadMan Lures. Dipping the tail of the white flukes in chartreuse dye has been a favorite tactic by some of our anglers. Although there are a large number of small fish still on the banks, the last couple of days, we have caught a 9.3 and a 9.7 and a couple of larger fish caught reported by the clients. Watermelon seed lizards fished in 12 to 15 foot of water has caught more of the mid-range 6 to 7 lb. fish. With the rise in the water, the Rio Fuerte is very muddy and the spinnerbaits are working well around the ferry. Very limited topwater action the last few days.

Wrote...Caught huge numbers of 1-3 lb. fish, large fish scarce. Flukes hot all the time in trees and near bank. Worms and lizards on the flats in main lake produced some decent fish in 5-6 lb. range. One member of our group scored bigger fish on pig n' jig. Top water hot in spots in evening, but almost no top in morning. Cranks in canyons and rivers can find stacked up fish and get really wild for period of time with fish caught every cast. Accomodations great! Thanks again Terry, Russ, Rene and Manuel for the excellent time.

Wrote...No problem catching tons of fish right now, However most of them are very small 2 pounds or less. The mid range 5 to 8 pound fish started showing up over the last 2 days. It seems that most of the bigger females are still deep and very inactive. White spinnerbaits in the stained water up the Rio Fuerte worked good to excellent. The Rio Fuerte produced the biggest averages of all fish caught on the Lake. Watermelon seed worms and Lizards fished along the banks also working excellent. Topwater has been a hit and miss. Late evenings for topwater worked best. Fish up to 7 pounds caught using Chug Bugs.

Headed out with Phillepe by 6:15. He did a great job and put on tons of fish. Fished the river to the right leaving from the lodge alot. Caught 97 fish day 1. Found a feeding frenzy on shad going on in the afternoon where the car ferry crosses the river, caught 67 fish (1-2 lbs.) in 2 hours on 3/4oz rattle traps black back - Incredible. Day 2 came a 5.3 pounder and 76 other fish (1-4 lb, and day 3, we caught 102 bass. Fished mostly Senkos, all colors worked well. Bigger fish were not close to the banks, but I imagine that will change within the next few weeks. The weather was great, sunny and 85 every day. The food and staff were great as always, looking forward to coming back next year in February for LUNKERS!

Wrote...Just over the last couple of days, the medium-size fish have moved a little shallower, with several 4-8 lb. fish caught on plastics. Spinnerbaits fish deep with white and chartreuse skirts also working well over the treetops. A guest today on six consecutive casts caught six fish over 6 lbs. Number of total fish caught over the last three or four days averaging around 55 fish a day with some boats reporting in excess of 100. The fish should start their first spawn in the next two to three weeks. Two 10 lb. fish recorded today. Providing the weather stays stable over the next two to three weeks, fishing should really improve dramatically. See you at the lodge! Rene Salazar

Wrote...Caught 71 the first day 3-4 lbs.; day two 65; day three 62. First day we caught most fish on Rattle Traps in chrome/blue, white, fire tiger 1/2oz - 3/4 oz. Day two we fished worms, senkos, Zoom trick worms pumpkin seed and power worms blue fleck and rattle traps. Day three fished mostly worms. All fish caught in 5 to 15 feet of water. Fish were suspended. Lake is still 80 plus feet low. Day two was unforgetable. We came around a bend in the canyon and there were 4 other boats from Huietes Lodge out in about 30 feet of water. We pulled in and began to fish. All boats were catching fish suspended out in the middle. There was lots of excitement here to say the least. One 10 lb was pulled out during the next hour plus several 3-5lb fish. The staff at Huietes Lodge was incredible. The food was great and was only out classed by the hospitality of the staff.

Wrote...Hi Folks Just returned from my second trip to Lake Huites with Reel Mexican Adventures. As was true the last time, the food, accomondations, boats and fishing were all great. Tyler and I fished three days and caught 60, 59 and 76 fish for a total of 195 between us for the trip. I would say that the average weight was in the 1 to 1 1/2 lb class, with a respectable amount of 2's and 3's. We had one 6, three 5's (Tyler had two of these one morning) and perhaps a couple that we felt would go 4. The best baits for us was a "Gary Yamamoto" Senko in the standard 5" size and/or a Zoom 6" Lizard, pitched and flipped around standing cover, small cuts and points. With the Senko's we couldn't see any difference at all with respect to color (everything we tried worked well) but with the Lizards there was a definite preference for watermelonseed, watermelon/chartreuse, and black/chartreuse. All in all we had a super trip and can't wait to go back. Many thanks to folks we met (lots of laughs !!) Rene, Russ, Terry and especially our guide "Saul". Reel Mexican Adventures is truly a first class operation. Best Regards Marshall

Wrote...Had yet another great trip. We fished five days with the first two days slow and the fishing getting better the next three days. The last day we ended up with over 250 fish for the boat. Alot of the fish were smaller, but still fun to catch, but we had our share of fish over five pounds with the biggest fish we caught going right at 6 1/2. It seems like the fish are getting ready to move up to start spawning as some of the bigger fish we caught looked as if they were just starting to build their nests. I think if they keep the water level for awhile the fishing should only get better every day. The water level actually rose a few inches while we were there. As usual the staff and everything at the lodge were great and I am looking forward to my next trip down. I was down at the same time as the previous person(Brit) who posted and I will agree with what he said about Reel Mexican Adv. being a first class operation. Sorry I did not get a chance to say goodbye to you Brit but you were gone by the time I got up. Mabey we will se each other again down there. Good luck to all that are going down in the next couple of months and I do envy you. Roger
