Copper Canyon Air-Train Tours
the train
The
train that runs from El Fuerte to Chihuahua is called Chepe. The
Company was privatized some years ago and is presently jointly owned
by an United States Company and a Mexican Company. The train travels
a route north out of El Fuerte, across Lake Huites and into the
Copper Canyon. The two principal stops in the Canyon are Cerocahui
and Posada del Baranca.
The train itself is quite modern and comfortable. A dining car
is attached for your convenience. Due to the many switch backs and
curves the train travels at a slow pace. Passengers can easily walk
around and stand on the platforms between the cars.
From
the high plains of Chihuahua, climb up to cross the Continental
Divide amidst the peaks of the Sierra Madre, then plunge down through
the canyons to the picturesque colonial town of El Fuerte just 100
feet above sea level. From El Fuerte´s 100 foot elevation
to the 7,600 foot height of the old minning/logging town of Creel
you will wind your way through canyons, 86 tunnels, and cross 39
major bridges. Creel has many hotels and shops. Experience absolutely
breathtaking views during this dramatic ride.
Journey
through the home of the ancient, primitive Tarahumara Indians on
the most extraordinary rail adventure in the Western Hemisphere.
The sites are truly spectacular so be sure to bring along plenty
of film or extra discs for digital users.
